“Beah Richards” By Michael Vick Was born and died -- in Vicksburg Mississippi A town in the heart of Dixie and well known for lynching Bigotry and white supremacy were the corner stones of that region Hunting black folks down was always in season – reason being - back In those days blacks - were supposed to be hatched from buzzards eggs She left that traumatic scene -- relocating to New Orleans To pursue her acting dreams -- she enrolled in Dillard University Immediately she showed her passion and versatility Beah was quite a playwright poet and author The more they ranted and raved The more Beah Richards praised God - for her mother and father They showered her with wisdom love and attention Her mother was a seamstress and her dad a Baptist minister So early in life she was taught – “You reap what you sow” “Carry yourself with pride and dignity where ever you may go” In 1950 she move to New York City - in 55 she was 35 and quite adept At portraying an 84 year old grandmother in the off - Broadway show “Take a Giant Step” - placing Vicksburg Mississippi on the map not just For a penchant for lynching blacks but the talented actress she hatched
