Beans are baked in Boston. I believe They were once the best, - TopicsExpress

Beans are baked in Boston. I believe They were once the best, though I cannot say. I had once been told, by a man in Maine who was wearing a black and green beanie, “Because we all know Boss-tin is Beantown,” but the real bean capital is in Maine— Portland, to be exact. (Maine used to be a part of Massachusetts,) so Boston once ruled that Down East state, and B & M Baked Beans were once a popular staple. The company is in downtown Portland. I have heard stories of wonderful smells Emanating from that bean factory, Which overlooks Portland’s Casco Bay. By no means should non-Mainers be confused with that Freeport retailer, L.L. Bean. They don’t bake beans, last I knew, anyway. But fret not, Portland’s baked beans are golden, soaked in rich molasses and sugar, and their beans are baked in brick ovens— not like those unhealthy Mexican beans (and never those Mexican jumping beans). Next time you have a craving for baked beans, Don’t envision “Boston Baked Beans”; rather, consider beans baked for hours on bricks, in Casco Bay, and not Boston’s Back Bay. -David James Heiss
