Bean’s results came back today and he tested high positive for Celiac Disease and anemia (caused from the lack of absorption of vital nutrients from Celiac). I was diagnosed about 5 years ago with Celiac Disease and Jelly was diagnosed about 4 years ago. It is hereditary. Though Bean has had many symptoms (Eczema, hives, allergic reaction to bites, ADD symptoms…though Doctor said he didn’t have ADD, acid reflux, unexplained stomach pains, tired disposition, and a really hard time focusing with a foggy head. Doctors have always had different diagnoses for these symptoms…so we never checked for Celiac….they didn’t see a need to test. He didn’t have what some might consider the usual diarrhea and low weight gain. Why am I sharing?? Because many don’t understand Celiac Disease…what it is…what is does…how simple it is to test for…and how easy it can be for healing as you venture onto a gluten free diet…FOREVER. My hope is by sharing; one of my readers will be enlightened to what could possibly be going on in their own body….get tested and find relief. What: The immune system of a celiac patient recognizes gluten as a foreign substance and attacks it with immune cells and antibodies. These destroy the villi in the small intestine greatly reducing the absorption of minerals and vitamins and healthy fats. Lactose intolerance is almost always accompanied with Celiac Disease, because the production of lactase, an enzyme that digests milk sugar lactose is usually reduced…making the patient intolerant. Celiac Disease is not an ALLERGY. With allergies, the histamine is released in the intestinal mucosa and skin, causing itchy skin, swelling, etc. Celiac Disease is an AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER where antibodies and immune cells attack the body’s own tissue. Start with a simple blood test… And as my dad used to say when I was first diagnosed: “Don’t talk about what you CAN’T eat, talk about what you CAN EAT.” glutendude/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/celiac-disease-symptoms.jpg celiac.org/
