Beatles memory from alumna, Adele Evangelist: Hi friends...wanted to share one of my MOST FAVORITE memories with some of you who might remember this MAJOR event of FEBRUARY 7, 1964......... i was a freshman in high school, [st. catharine academy in the bronx,] and it was my 15th birthday...my dear friend, gloria, and i [true beatle admirers] were walking out of the lunch room, about the same time as the beatles were landing at JFK.....the french club, headed by miss driscoll, was raffling off tickets to the first beatles concert at carnegie hall for the following wed. night...so we bought 2 raffles tickets, [for 10 cents each!] and made the commitment that if i win, ill take you, and if you win, youll take me....so at 3:00 the principal [sr. chrysostom] made the announcement...the winner of the raffle....ADELE F. PUCCI!!!!.... and the place went WILD.....but HOW were we going to get to carnegie hall on a wednesday night from the bronx???.....luckily, glorias parents, went into the city often during the week to go dancing so they drove us and picked us up!...it was the greatest concert because you could actually hear them singing!....so thank you, don and dorothy de nigris [who live in rye, ny] for making our beatles dream come true! heres the program and ticket stub....ticket cost $3.00 for 5th row balcony.....[and just as an aside, 48 years later, gloria and i dragged our husbands to yankee stadium to see paul mccartney and the tickets were $155.00 each....]...so thats my story...IT WAS 50 YEARS AGO TODAY!!!
