Beautiful Annie is here today because she had a cystotomy (you might remember her picture from last Friday that her mom posted). She was urinating blood (we found that she had a UTI) and our medications were not improving her. Urinary stones are usually the next thing we typically look for if pets do not improve (find by taking an x-ray, circled her stone on the x-ray). In the presence of a stone, the UTI portion may clear up with the antibiotics, but the stone will constantly cause irritation to the bladder wall when rubbing against it and cause irritation and blood to always be present It can also cause the same issues to the urethra (the tube from the bladder to the outside of your pet). Her stone is in the last picture. We then need to analyze the stone to see what kind it is so that you can decrease the chances of this re-occuring this in the future. She did wonderful after surgery!
