Beautiful bird of the day: Pompadour Cotinga (Xipholena punicea) is a species of bird in the Cotingidae family. Found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Peru, Suriname, and Venezuela. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. Males are a striking metallic burgundy with bright white wings; females are charcoal gray with a white belly and blackish wings. Pompadour Cotingas are mostly silent, but males engage in ritual chasing which may serve a function as a display.
