Beautiful night selling glowsticks in historical Defiance, Ohio, right on the site of Fort Defiance, the Fort General Mad Anthony Wayne built in 1794 at the confluence of the Maumee and Auglaize Rivers. (Yes, Fort Wayne was named for him... 45 miles west of Defiance.) He said, I defy the English, the Indians, and all the devils of hell to take it! Thus we had Fort DEFIANCE, and now Defiance, Ohio. From Fort Defiance, the American forces moved northeast along the Maumee River to fight the decisive Battle of Fallen Timbers near the current town of Maumee, Ohio. This victory secured for the United States the Northwest Territory, now the states of Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Just a block south of Fort Defiance Fort Winchester was built during the War of 1812 by General William Henry Harrison... future governor of Indiana and future President of the United States. What can be better than celebrating our Independence on a very historical location, making a little money, and enjoying beautiful cool summer weather... all at the same time?
