Scientists dont really know the answer to this one but it is thought that some types of hair develop anagen sensitivity as we grow older. The long term exposure of hair follicles to hormones such as testosterone disrupts and lengthens their growing period. Thats why nose, ear, and eyebrow hair can become long and wirery without regular trimming as we age. At least this is mainly a male problem good for us not so much or them lol
