Bebeface, what a day! Although every cell in my body was screaming what are you doing , you IDDIIIOT, it is the middle of the night, go back to bed, I rose at 3.30 a.m. and hit the road with Fred to hike the Devils summit ..in Italy. Made me think of that day we decided to be all international an all and have brekkie in France, lunch in Italy and dinner in Monaco, 3 countries in 1 day. Tossers! haha!. Sadly that was after I fell off Sugarloaf mountain so I had a bandage on my head and my hand was in plaster, less Princess Grace and more Mike Tyson so I didnt really feel the part. It was okay though because you made me feel a million dollars anyway. You, you, youre good you. Anyway, holy guacamole, THAT was a hike. The toughest I have done, (3 Djouces all at once and then back in 6hrs, anyone?) but was it brilliant? hell yeah. It was magical. In fact, it was so good, I felt, today, really felt, for the first time in a long time, that it was good to be alive. Maybe it was the lack of oxygen but it did cross my mind to break into a rendition of the hills are alive 6 a.m. The sun was just rising over the Alps, black and jagged on the horizon. We set off into a landscape so picturesque I am not convinced Monet or Da Vinci could have captured it. The meadows were covered in a rainbow of wild flowers, luminescent in the creeping light. Cow bells tinkled in the distance as the birds began to sing. We saw deer, foxes, hares and rabbits lolloping along and hawks and eagles soaring. I thought to myself as I clasped your wedding ring, please be able to see this Bebe. Look through me. Feel through me, the sense of awe and wonder, the exciitement. Like Buzz Lightyear, onwards and upwards we trekked, relentlessly, up into the cloudless blue sky. Despite the fact that my legs were starting to scream blue murder and I knew I would have to hang like a bat when I got home, I plodded on and on, telling myself that every step was bringing me closer to you. Up we went, through the fairytale beauty of the Vallée des Merveilles (Valley of Wonders). We went so high, we climbed out of the sun and into the snow. I was beaming like a 15 year old boy at a playboy party. Finally, we reached the top and it felt like I was standing on top of the world..so I did what you would do, I opened a bottle of Bordeaux (merci Fred)..to really appreciate the panoramic! Bebeeee, whateuuuuu?! I missed you every step of the way and thought about you even more often than that. I kept asking you to let me know if any part of you was still knocking about.. Well.... next thing you know, up pops this young handsome chap and we all get chatting and turns out he is a mountain guide (my dream job as you know) who has just finished a solo trek of the GR20 (more on this to follow). I ask him if he would mind giving me his e-mail address as I would like to talk to him further about the job etc ..turns out his name is ..Olivier! Then, on the route down I see this in the snow (see pic 12) and if that wasnt enough, just as the end was in sight and I felt I could barely take another step, I look up and see a cluster of forget-me-nots, which I didnt see anywhere else in the valley. As I said,.... you, you, youre good you. Mother nature at her best, in every sense...thank you Bebe, today I smiled a genuinely happy smile because I felt you with me. I love you.
