Because people took ACTION... Mar 7, 2014 - (WA State, Rep. Jason Overstreet) HB 2789, otherwise known as the Drone Bill, just passed the Senate by a vote of 46-1. It passed the House 83-15. This is a huge victory for privacy protections for Washington State citizens and creates strong sidebars on government usage. Next step...the Governors desk. A huge thank you to Republican Senator Don Benton for fighting for the bill as it came close to dying due to todays 5 oclock cutoff. The lone no vote, Republican Senator Jim Honeyford from Yakima, proposed the below amendment, stating that his amendment was intended to be as ridiculous as the underlying bill. Indeed, Senator Honeyfords amendment was an affront to all Washington citizens: ...and also Santa Claus and his flying sleigh, known worldwide under a variety of aliases, who is reputed to collect personal information on all the good and bad boys and girls around the world EFFECT: Requires Santa Claus to comply with the law. apps.leg.wa.gov/documents/billdocs/2013-14/Pdf/Amendments/Senate/2789.E%20AMS%20HONE%20S4964.3.pdf Fortunately, 46 Senators chose freedom and the privacy protections contained in this bill, over petty rhetoric meant to mock. Washington wins.
