Because the CNRP enjoys an increasing popular support, the CPP needs the NEC to continue to manipulate elections in order to cling on to power. To continue to control the NEC, the CPP must absolutely keep the 50% + 1 formula for the selection of NEC members since a slightly higher majority at the National Assembly would also require the support of the CNRP.
