Because tight ideological control at universities worked out so - TopicsExpress

Because tight ideological control at universities worked out so well last time! One idea he might try: print a bunch of pithy Marxism-related quotes in little books and hand them out to everyone to carry around all the time. I suggest a red cover with a portrait on the front to make them stand out. I wonder if hell be urging his daughter to study Marxism and seek ideological guidance while shes off at Harvard. Sarcasm aside, it seems clear to me that anyone who still expects Xis administration to preside over any kind of loosening up of Party control or to further open up Chinese society to the outside world is delusional. He deserves praise for reining in corruption (everything Ive heard suggests that the anti-corruption campaign is having real impact) but this kind of thing seems like its playing with fire -- questing for ideological purity has gone violently wrong in living memory in China, and pushing Marxism really hard in a society thats already chock full of resentment over inequality may not be the best recipe for the social stability everyone claims is the Partys top priority. If this kind of campaign fails, the Party looks weak and foolish. If it succeeds, it stirs up discontent with the current system, much of which will necessarily be aimed in the Partys direction. Unless Xi actually *is* a closet reformer and this is all a ploy to bring about the overthrow of the Party, its not clear to me how he expects this to end up being of benefit to anyone involved.
