Becoming President of a neighborhood organization this year has - TopicsExpress

Becoming President of a neighborhood organization this year has been fun and challenging. Im so, so busy, yet, its so fulfilling at the same time. Myself and my team absolutely depend on Carla Smiths institutional knowledge. She immediately knows exactly what action to take whenever we go to her for help. I know many neighbors have also experienced this on an individual level. Her opponents literally have no platform to run on, so theyre attacking her by falsely twisting reality and just plain making stuff up. I know because some of what theyre attacking her about are issues Im deeply connected to and have full knowledge of which provides me the luxury of knowing the full truth. The doubt and confusion her opponents are creating are centered around an important issue to myself and many of my neighbors and it is just pathetic and untruthful. If anyone wants to know anything they can call Carla at anytime, but some dont take advantage of her availability and prefer to believe what they want. District 1 would be seriously set back if either of her opponents were elected simply because, as far as I can tell, neither of her opponents have accomplished much of anything in their local neighborhoods. If they had they would be running on their accomplishments instead of attacking her. They need to serve on committees, serve as Presidents of their neighborhood associations, serve on their NPUs and really know what it is like to help a community. Serving in those positions also teaches one the ropes within the City. That means the longer I serve in my current position, the less I have to go directly to Carla for help, and I can tell you she absolutely never gives me the feeling that Im asking too much of her. Im not the only person asking her for help, yet I feel like I am because she gives me her undivided attention and never rattles off a list of all the other things she has to do. I only know she has a list because I have a list for one neighborhood, so that means her list is quadruple my list! I point this out because someone elected who has never served as a neighborhood leader would have a serious learning curve at our expense... at the expense of ALL District 1 neighborhoods. I think Im busy with one neighborhood?! I cant even begin to imagine how Carla does it for all Distric 1 neighborhoods. I would be one arrogant SOB if I never had my current position as neighborhood leader followed by the years of service as a VP, decided to run as a Council Member and actually thought I would be effective for an entire district. When considering any candidate look to see their path to the position they seek, and if you see a big gaping hole lacking accomplishments and years of local service, avoid them and their hole. Youll fall right into a big unknown. Its nice when people have ideas and things to say. Its completely different when they actually have action to back up their ideas. Carla is ALL action. This is my personal opinion and not that of GPNA. Its been difficult for me to remain silent due to trying to be careful, however, Im protected by the 1st Amendment and can absolutely endorse someone despite what some people think. Im voting for Carla Smith, and I hope you do, too.
