Becoming a disciple of Jesus is a process that will liberate you from all man-made dogmas, from every burden and oppression, from every anxiety and torture that afflicts your conscience. If you follow Jesus by His Holy Spirit, you will escape from the hard yoke of your own laws, and submit to the kindly yoke of Jesus Christ. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30) What does the call of Holy Spirit empowered discipleship mean today to the retail store clerk, the truck driver, the business executive, or the single parent of three children? What happens if we answer the call to this radical process of discipleship? Where will this lead us? What will it cost? Only Christ knows, for it is Him who first must bid come. We must remember that on two separate occasions the apostle Peter received the call from Jesus to, “Follow me.” It was the first and last statement Jesus spoke to this disciple (Mark 1:17; John 21:22). The first occasion was by the lake of Gennesareth, when Peter left his nets and his trade and followed Growing Jesus at His Word.
