Been a bit sobering watching families all around us facing layoffs and out of work seeking a job and not able to find one. Most people dont save up when in time of plenty to deal with times of need. There are so many issues the oilfield lifestyle comes with ranging from families living on the road, some split with mom and kids home and man on the road working, jobs only lasting a few months and then having to find a new job, and now with oil prices down (no im not mad they are low cuz many families need the break on the fuel cost however short lived it is) have left companies laying off and stacking rigs. Fortunately pipelines are planned out three years ahead of time due to permit and funding issues so it wont slow down so bad for Misters side of it...however all the laid off workers from rigs will transfer into a larger base of workers in the industry to pull from which will likely lower wages across the board. .....will be a heartbreak to watch but at the same time there is a conflict in my heart because many many many...do not store up for a rainy day and have no back up plan in place for the event of being laid off for longer than a month. I hope those with jobs in this industry who are still working are paying close attention and saving as much as they can while they can or paying off as much debt as possible.
