Been debating a story in the Star stating that some ODM MPs intend to softly talk to Raila Odinga to back-out of 2017 Presidential elections. Their argument is exactly what i have stated here several times. Raila has had his time. Those who know his struggles have already rewarded him in their own ways. The young [voting] generation would required a whole academic year to know what Raila means when he says he struggled for Kenya. Raila himself told The Star that its too early to discuss it. He said that is a post-referendum issue. It means he intends to use the referendum to gauge his popularity, not to amend the constitution. But all that aside, I would love to see a Raila beyond politics. Lets be honest and unbiased, Raila is an international figure now. May be he is needed by the world more than we need him. Take for example, today I toured the bookshop of University of Nairobi (the oldest institution of higher learning in Kenya). I visited Law and Literature sections then drifted away casually to Political Science and religion; there is absolutely nothing by or on the intellectual icon Ali Mazrui. May be there is i only missed it given that much of his works were mainly in intellectual journals and media analysis. That is not my point. Im saying that Mazrui was still a great man out there. Same for Raila. He is still great to the rest of the world (may be). That is where Raila belongs now. The work to be done out there is sooo much that there is shortage of workers.
