Been discussing the Gold Rush Park idea with local smart folks like Neil Pople, Dan Scott and Tamie Dramer. One mention was of the New York High Line, which was of course not built as a deliberate elevated park, but an abandoned, rusty railroad structure that sat disused for so long that grass grew on the tracks. Its not the sort of thing you could build new. But then I got to thinking--there are plans to build a new Sacramento River bridge (for cars, peds and bikes) north of the I Street bridge, but it would remain as a railroad bridge. Could we reuse the existing I Street bridges second level as a small linear high line park with a dramatic, elevated view of the Sacramento/West Sacramento waterfront?
