Been looking at a few cam cover refurbs of late..some really good..some downright awful. Just thought i would give a quick outline as to how ours at vtecdirect are done. They usually arrive looking a sorry mess...they are firstly chemically stripped of all paint and then dipped into parts washer to remove all old oil and contaminants from both inside and outside. The cover is then de oxidised and keyed by hand using high grade abrasives. Once cleaned again after the keying process..all seal surfaces are masked from paint..spark plug holes covered..all bolt holes filled and raised lettering masked out. A high temperature high build primer is apllied and allowed to dry. Then the main base coat is added. This is NOT wrinkle paint..it is a special textured paint which gives a perfect even textured finish all over and doesnt require ovens etc to get it to react. The final coat is yet more textured paint but this coat is tinted with Honda milano red to give it the authentic and uniform colour on every cam cover. Once dry..all sealing surfaces are cleaned and buffed..the raised lettering is hand polished to an almost mirror finish and the job is done. We carry a stock of H, B,K and some D series covers so can usually have a finished cover to you in 2 days ready to transform your bay. New seal kits also available. Price. £60 exchange Seal kits from £35 Series of photos below to show the start to finish sequence.
