Been pondering today about my relationship with other authors... I - TopicsExpress

Been pondering today about my relationship with other authors... I think people are occasionally under the impression that authors who write in the same genre are in competition with each other, or that we want readers to choose teams. But the fact is that no author can write enough books to feed their readers continuously, which means our relationships with other authors in our subgenres are less like rivalries and more like partnerships. For example, Ive noticed an uptick in my sales when another major MC book releases. This does not make me unhappy, LOL. Recently someone tried to play me off another influential MC writer. Nows a good time to point out that for the most part, professional, successful authors get along with and support each other. Nobody understands the weirdness and stress of our jobs like other writers, which makes us natural allies. Not only that, through the magic of social media, we can easily communicate with each other... that means when you try to play us off each other, we can see through it. If youre an author and you find that someone is trying to set up a rivalry between you and someone else, go to the source. Dont fall for the games, dont get caught up in the drama and dont forget that ultimately other writers can and should be your friends. Thats my thought for the night :)
