Been reading Rippletipples books recently. My thoughts on Starting Strength and Practical Programming for Strength Training thus far: 1. The Toe knows a good deal, but his arrogance only makes his flaws more glaring. 2. Purplenurple takes a one size fits all approach to strength training which ignores much of the human variability in the situation, particularly when it comes to physiology. 3. Rip thus only seems concerned with one type of person (that is, the kind that fits into this program) at the expense of everyone else. Weird for whats supposed to be a basic primer for the non-lifter (something which should be as inclusive as possible, imo). 4. Brickabrack frequently takes a big ol dump all over the theoretical learning we get from science in favor of the practical experience approach, but then spends a large chunk of Practical Programming explaining the science behind everything... Its pretty sad, because frankly many of the problems in the book directly arise whenever Rip talks about his opinions on things. Everything else is solid, but not necessarily revolutionary. Recommended for those looking for a basic primer but should be taken with a grain of salt... or three.
