Been seeing and hearing comments and messages bout Salsa DJ music - TopicsExpress

Been seeing and hearing comments and messages bout Salsa DJ music flying everywhere since am back from Singapore. Just a 2 cents of my thoughts, I am not a DJ myself but I do know its not easy to be a Salsa DJ who can please everyone music preference. All I can say is being a good DJ is not easy as dancers may not see the amount of hard work, effort and time a DJ invested in just to prepare a song list for one social night. Being a good DJ has to continuously maintain to be humble and open to criticisms. Sometimes the comments and feedback you received may be harsh but if it makes sense it will help u to improve. Also I find its rather important for a salsa DJ to continue to explore and dance to have a better understanding on what songs are good to listen but not very suitable to be played on a social night. To be honest as a social dancer myself I will get irritated if a song beats change from time to time in a single song or a not so pleasant song being played like 5 or 6 minutes long. Again its all about personal preference. A good DJ shouldnt lose their own flavour or characteristic, your songs identify who you are. Plainly playing songs just to please the crowd will limit u to go further. Its not easy to introduce the crowd new song style in one night so starting it by ratio of 90% familiar songs and 10% new songs and play smart with the ratio will slowly get the crowd to accept the new style. All and all I think its important for a DJ and also dancers to further our knowledge on musicality. It is still a long journey for myself to learn and explore! Long Live Salsa! =)
