Before I FINALLY get outside....I was thinking yesterday about an article Mindy Rubinstein-Rosier posted about the charter school teachers who think 3 years in a classroom is enough...that they are looking for something more after that. I then heard the sad news about the assistant principal who survived the ferry crash and then committed suicide because his students were still missing and he felt so upset by that, and the teacher who threw herself in front of her students at Sandy Hook and even my small contribution of going to a show last night to see Daniel Daniel Jacob Radcliffe not only for myself but to see if I can fulfill students in my theatre programs dreams. I dont think that any teacher does not care for the students standing in their presence. But their is a huge difference between thinking your students are a step on the way to something better and thinking of passing on your knowledge as having arrived at something. It is not true that those who cant teach - it is those that have real knowledge and want to share it teach. New York is blessed with many people who continue to work in our industry and still find room in their hearts to share their skills. Watching Ishermaan last night I thought that what all those characters lacked was someone to teach them well...to embrace differences and to own their own assets. In short they needed a good teacher!
