Before I address the two pics below, I want to do a little grammie - TopicsExpress

Before I address the two pics below, I want to do a little grammie bragging. Years ago, before I became a grammie, grandmothers had brag books tucked inside their purses. We now have FB. I spent the entire day with JW yesterday, and he is here at Grammie & Pop’s house for the day. Where does he come up with the comments he makes? He’s so in tune with such a variety of things. For instance: 1) While I were driving in the Honesdale area yesterday, he said, “I see the hay fields.” Do kids say things like that? 2) He will correct you by saying, “It’s manure,”…………….not cow s***. 3) Pop and I took him to Knoebels a few weeks ago. Pop bought the pizza for us first, BEFORE buying the vanilla ice cream with peanuts that JW had been asking for (that he was told he would be getting AFTER he finished his meal). JW was crying as we ate our pizza because he had to sit and wait. THAT was not the correct order (Doesnt Pop know that?)……..if YOU really want to enjoy YOUR pizza. JW was not being bold. He had already eaten his dinner at one of the other places a bit earlier. Anyway, my point here, is that yesterday, out of the blue, he said to me, “I was crying at Knoebels because Pop bought his pizza before he got me my vanilla ice cream with peanuts.” What makes a kid remember something with no prompting? 4) I like to ask him where he got different items from. He always remembers who gave them to him, AND where they got them from. Yesterday, I asked him where he got his CARS potty chair from. He answered, “From you Grammie. You got it at Wal-Mart.” I asked him where he got his shark flip-flops from. He answered, “From you Grammie. You got them at Old Navy.” Then, he added, “Auntie Julie shops there.” Are you kidding me? How does he know that? I am sure she mentioned it when she saw them……but, he remembered. ……..But, then again, .…….mentioning ANY store, .…….AND saying that Auntie Julie shops THERE, ….. ...it is aways a pretty good guess because Auntie Julie shops EVERYWHERE! 5) He was playing with his tractor, er, ONE of his tractors, and he attached the trailer to the back. As he was “driving it down the road,” he said, “Let’s go get the lumber.” LUMBER? What two-year old calls it lumber? I guess the same kid who knows the difference between a rainbow trout, brown trout, walleye, pickerel, coho, etc. The same kid who asks, “WHAT kind of bird is that?” WITHOUT seeing it because he recognizes the different sounds they make. He can identify some birds by their calls. Oh yeah, the same kid who asked why the moon looks different sometimes. He now has “Moon in my Room,” and not only knows the full moon and new moon, this kid knows a waxing crescent, waning gibbous, etc. Just ask Pop how difficult it is to teach that to 8th graders………………but then again, this kid really wants to learn. SOOOOOO, all of that is just a few minutes in the life of JW yesterday. It’s time to explain the pics below. Anna had the day off from work yesterday. I went to Honesdale to spend the day. Anna needed to stop at work to pick up JW’s fund-raiser for school (daycare). Anna’s mother-in-law, Diane, also works at the vet clinic. JW was excited to be seeing his other gramma. (I am “Grammie” and Diane is “Gramma). I was carrying him when we walked in, and as soon as he saw her, he reached out to her. He was pointing to different things, and she was explaining them to him. Then, he spotted “THAT” on the counter. He wanted “THAT.” Here’s how the rest of the conversation went: JW: What’s that, Gramma? Diane: Oh, that’s Gramma’s dancing flower. JW: Not that Gramma, THAT! (as he pointed to the 3D model next to it) Diane: It’s a dog’s heart to show how heartworm infects a dog. AND………with that said, JW got a lesson about heartworm……..from learning the parts of the heart to learning how the heartworm infects the heart and vessels. This grammie (me) better start hittin’ the books!
