Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word. - TopicsExpress

Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep your word. Psalm 119:67 Ever heard the saying no pain, no gain? No one wants to sign up for the school of suffering. But suffering can be a powerful instrument of Spiritual growth. In fact, its fair to say the pathway to holiness always involves suffering of one kind or another. When our lives are all roses with no thorns, all sun with no clouds, we tend to become spiritually complacent and careless, neglecting serious self-examination and confession. Suffering sometimes is Gods chastening response to our sin. It may come in the form of pruning, removing unnecessary things so we will bear more fruit. Often it is simply unavoidable pain associated with living in a fallen world. Regardless of its cause it remains a gracious gift from the hand of a God who loves us. Thought for today: have I ever thanked God for the suffering that has drawn me closer to Him?
