Before all, above all, underneath all and in the midst of all stories, there is silence. Spacious, boundless and mysterious in its existence,it is always present. It cannot be learned, since it is the field where all knowledge arises and disappears. Silent awareness is the changeless subject. All objects appear and disappear in it. Silent and conscious, awareness has no need for name or form of even the subtlest kind for its boundaryless existence, yet no name or form can be separate from it. The discovery that silent awareness is the unchanging presence of ones true identity is momentous beyond measure. All the ways we have defined ourselves disappear in the expansive instant of recognition of changeless, formless, silent presence. We naturally and profoundly rejoice as we recognize that regardless of any name or form, acquisition or loss, positive or negative experience, THIS is always present. THIS is who I am.
