Before you read this heres a little background. First off Ive been working for these past 6 months to build website geared toward helping out beginners. However Im super skeptical about a lot of things and I wanted to make it very foundational and for the longest time I was trying to think of the best way to approach and help a beginner without losing their sense of discovery but still lead them in the right direction. So fast forward to now when Im going over Foundations of Interpretation for school and after reading over their definitions and methods I had a great idea: Parkour Interpreters. No coaches, no instructors, no how-to tutorials. Instead teaching is coming from a translated view. Dont understand? Well I took the first few paragraphs of how they described it and simply replaced it with parkour terminology. It reads as below. Interpretation is an educational activity which aims to reveal meaning and relationships through the use of original objects, by firsthand experience, and by illustrative media, rather than simply to communicate factual information (Tilden, 1957, p. 8). Interpretation is a catalyst in creating an opportunity for the audience to form their own intellectual and emotional connections with the meanings and significance inherent in the resource (National Park Service, 1996). Interpretation is a mission based communication process that forges emotional and intellectual connections between the interests of the audience and the meanings inherent in the resource (Brochu and Merriman, 2006). When most people hear the word interpreter, they think of someone who translates the meaning of one language into another. In a gym, jam, or training setting, interpreters translate the meanings of obstacles, movements, events, and practice methods into a language that helps practitioners understand these resources. Another term for interpreters could be practitioner experience specialists. They provide information, orientation, and inspiration in the right amounts and at the right times, so that practitioners will have more enjoyable, meaningful experiences. Interpretation facilitates connections between the interests of the practitioner and the meanings of the obstacles, movements, or practice methods of their training. Practitioners will remember meanings long after their training session, more so than the bio-mechanics involved in a movement or a specific routine of exercises or routes. Truly meaningful interpretation answers the question, Why should I move?
