Before you say that victims of domestic abuse are at fault for not - TopicsExpress

Before you say that victims of domestic abuse are at fault for not leaving, consider these facts: Fact: When domestic violence victims attempt to leave the relationship, the stalking and violence almost always escalates sharply as the perpetrator attempts to regain control. Fact: The majority of domestic violence homicides occur as a woman attempts to leave or after she has left. Fact: The most serious domestic violence injuries are perpetrated against women who have separated from the perpetrator. The solution is not to blame victims who dont leave their abusers, but to support victims so that they can leave. Please note, Truly Loving Women would like to add that there is a small percentage of cases where the perpetrator of domestic violence is female and the victim is male. In that case, the same fear of leaving and the possible dangers and shame associated with leaving could also make it hard for a man dealing with a violent partner to leave and he may need similar help to a woman exposed to domestic violence. The statistics however are overwhelmingly clear that the majority of domestic violence is by men against women. Therefore, this article speaks of women- but is relevant for men in the same position and relevant for us all to understand these mechanisms regardless of our situation so that we can be aware and better able to help and truly love.
