Beginner Sock Knitting Description: Have you ever wanted to try knitting socks but put it off because they seem too complicated? Join us for Beginner Sock Knitting and learn the basic anatomy of the sock and how to knit socks from the cuff down. Students in this class will have the option to knit either a feltable Christmas stocking or a baby sock. Both projects will use the same pattern but different weights of yarn. The class will cover how to knit the ribbing, the leg, the heel flap, how to turn the heel, knit the gusset and the foot, and it will also give 2 options for closing at the toe. Most students will go home with either a single finished baby sock or a finished Christmas stocking which is ready for felting at home (though the felting is optional). Required skills: Cast on, bind off, knit, purl, and knitting in the round are techniques with which students should already be familiar. Slip stitch, k2tog, p2tog, picking up stitches and Kitchener stitch will be used, but can be taught in class if needed. What to bring to class: If making the baby sock: Fingering weight yarn, preferably machine washable. If making the Christmas stocking: One skein of worsted, bulky or super bulky yarn. Please not that as the weight of yarn and the needle size go up, the finished stocking will be larger. If you intend to felt the stocking, please be sure to use a feltable yarn. Needles appropriate for the weight of yarn you have selected. Students may use any type of needles (DPNs or circulars) and method of knitting in the round they prefer; however, the class will not cover techniques such as magic loop, so student should already be familiar with the method of knitting in the round that they intend to use. Yarn needle. One stitch marker (optional). Level: Advanced Beginner and up Cost: $30.00 Instructor: Elisha Cram Pre-registration and payment is required for this class. Minimum of 2 students, maximum of 8 All registered students receive 10% all One Lupine purchases the day of the class
