Beginning with the early missionary indian schools in the first - TopicsExpress

Beginning with the early missionary indian schools in the first part of the 19th century, there were always back stabbing competition between the different denominatios to reap the most souls. One problem no one could forsee in the future especially when the ABCFM Church elevated a few pious Cherokees to the rank of deacons, their new rank required them to oversee the moral standards of the church members, be able to assist their white pastors, the cherokee made poor deacons because they didnt like to press thier brethern to the high standards of the Christian church. It was not the way of the Cherokee to use spiritual authority to enforce moral standards on someone else ( friends, kin and neighbors ) Footnote:For a Cherokee to know his self he must know his/her history. Too many times I have met someone who say they are Cherokee, but can tell me nothing about their past.
