Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the World. These - TopicsExpress

Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the World. These words are amazing words of Gods grace. John points us to Jesus who came to die that we might live. But what did the Jews hear when John said this? On the day of atonement the priest brought a lamb out and laid his hand upon the head of the lamb and confessed his sins and the sins of the people. He then took that lamb and shed its blood. The blood was drained and the priest took the blood and did two things with it. He first sprinkled some of it upon the people who had gathered to celebrate the Day of Atonement. Then he took some into the Most Holy Place and sprinkled the blood on the ark of the covenant to show that the blood of the lamb had made atonement for the sins of the people. This lamb was called the Lamb of God. I wonder how the Jews reacted when John pointed to Jesus and called him the Lamb of God. It feels me with great joy to know that Jesus is the lamb of God who has taken away my sins and the sins of the world. I give thanks to God for this indescribable gift. 24 Now some Pharisees who had been sent 25 questioned him, Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet? 26 I baptize with {26 Or in; also in verses 31 and 33} water, John replied, but among you stands one you do not know. 27 He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. 28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing. 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is the one I meant when I said, A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me. 31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel. 32 Then John gave this testimony: I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. 33 I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit. 34 I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God.
