Being a Mom is not incompatible with being a teacher at all! Moms - TopicsExpress

Being a Mom is not incompatible with being a teacher at all! Moms teach manners, potty training, acceptable behaviors, safety, nutrition, and boundaries. Why not phonics, math, handwriting, spelling, reading, history, geography, and civics? Yes, Moms and Dads may need refresher courses and/or learning aids to teach their children, but teaching is part of a parents job. I understand that some parents are exhausted by just providing for their childrens physical needs: food; shelter; medical care; clothing; and other needs. For them, public education or private schooling is the only answer. But imagine having your children being taught creationism or distorted history and science being left out of the curriculum? Imagine your child not having handwriting skills? I have seen children who did not even know the multiplication tables. Learning by rote is an important cognitive skill. As public education deteriorates, parents will have to shoulder the burden of educating their children themselves. State or Federal exams should determine the validity of that education. Only then will we have quality education instead of the one size fits all diplomas and degrees that mean nothing.
