Being a childcare professional & a legal mandated reporter by the state, Im feeling a duty from an awareness aspect to comment on this issue. After reading many peoples feelings about the Adrian Peterson child abuse case, I am absolutely BAFFLED how ignorant and uneducated this country still is about child abuse. Im hearing things like its none of our business, we shouldnt even know about this, why should I suffer when I pay good money to see them win, our parents got the switch so its okay. the government needs to get their nose out of people lives. I raised my kids with spankings which I had no problem with using as an absolute last resort . There is a difference between a little sting swat on the hiney to let them know you mean business vs. beating a child into submission! For 23 yrs. I have raised other peoples children for a living and have never used any form of corporal punishment with anyone elses children ever, yet still manage to teach respect and compliance along with love and compassion. I do not have a problem with parents who choose to spank as i did with my own kids. I feel it does have is place when utilized correctly. If you know me, Im the first one to say that the government has way too much power in our lives & sticks their nose in where it doesnt belong and yes, many cases what is considered abuse should not be, sadly the gray area is broad and the government has its head up its ass about a lot of things but in this case, if the photos are legit & the testimonies of the child, the mother and the doctor are correct then hell yeah, absolutely the law needs to step in! This is not a spanking people, this is an abusive assault on a 4 yr old CHILD! Yes Im not ignorant to the generations of acceptable forms of punishment. I too had a belt hanging by the door all of my childhood to remind me to behave. There is a difference between discipline and abuse. Drawing blood repeatedly on the back, legs, genitals while stuffing leaves in the mouth of a 4yr old child to gain the upper hand is wrong no matter WHO you are. Equally disturbing is that people are condoning this! There is a difference and given the supposed evidence, this case looks clear cut to me. This should not happen to anyone! And if we all turn a blind eye, it will never end. So as a lover and caregiver of children.... I choose not to ignore the problem. /MO
