Being a performer can mean many things, and manifest on many levels. For some, its a sideline that they do when the opportunity presents and the spirit moves; for others, its a living and a business as well as a lifestyle/destiny/reason-for-being; and everything in between. If youre going to make a living at being an artist, just like any job, you have to work at it and, at least in our system, you have to sell yourself and be out in the public eye. Managing that is a major task in and of itself. You have to deal with fan perception, press and paparazzi watching your every move, and a life that is, at least for some portion of it, very much lived out in the open for everyone to see through the fish-eye lens that is mass media. Its become even more rawkus in the past couple of decades as the latter has become hugely distributed and, in some ways, through social networks and web pages and other internet-related tools, partially self-directed and almost manically immediate. This occurs on the local and regional level, to varying degree, and some who aspire to the performing arts as a career have/choose to manage all of that even as they take the long climb up the ladder towards a broader market - the fan expectations, the local press/paparazzi following and documenting their every public move (yikes, sheepishly raising my hand there) - and its a job to do so, along with all of the other aspects of creating a successful rock star life. Sooo... Maddy and Suave got married, and while the ceremony was private, the reception party was a Wedstival that involved hundreds of fans and friends and two stages and eight bands - one of the big events of the season, and what youd expect from home-town music royalty. What was most pleasing about it, to this reporter, was the huge props and respect shown by their peers who participated in entertaining, and the love and good feeling of the not-surprisingly massive crowd that came to express their well-wishes. Ive rambled enough for this entry. Heres The Blind Spots at Seedstock 6, performing one of my favorites - New Persona - on the Front stage, August 2nd, 2014.
