Being an artist has its own responsibility and hazard. Like a poet - TopicsExpress

Being an artist has its own responsibility and hazard. Like a poet or painter or sculptor, a photographer deals with reality that consists of life and nature. But he cannot move or work so freely like others. His freedom is bound by what he sees in reality or what life and nature offers him. I do seldom like to talk on anything related to my work/ photography though sometimes I feel an urge to speak out. A recent post entitled “Ladies Only” sparks some unwanted damaging comments/reaction: “ 6i 6i apni chobi tolar ar palase pelen na ( shame shame you do not get a place to photograph) and” eder ebhabe beaabroo kora uchit hoyni ( you should not have so exposed them; could you do if they belong to high society? ) It is quite unnatural and I call it ’frenzy’. I have doubt about their sense and sensibility, let alone art and life and its relation. Even I question their sanity. Had they a little knowledge about art and literature or life itself they could not utter such words. Their reaction to the image speaks a lot about their nature and character, nay their hollowness, nihilism or perversion, or ignorance about life and reality. Their mindset/being is to be carefully kept/preserved in incubator until they become mature for delivery to the beautiful world of sun and shower. They are too immature for delivery to the natural surroundings of life and reality. They should be kept and nurtured in incubator. I feel pity for such poor fellows who remind me of Pope’s dictum: ‘Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.’ I strongly object their insane reaction as I have done nothing shameful in taking picture of our life and culture in a public place always open to everybody and fortunately, it is adjacent to my home. Besides, this is an image of life, pure and simple. I see nothing objectionable or vulgar or in bad taste. Nor have I lowered their dignity. Rather I have enough love and respect to the people of my dear land. I always encounter them and maintain a deep relation by means of which I have easy access to the life and culture of my surrounding world. It is sad that after decades of experience as an art teacher and artist, I am to digest the advice of such learned friends where (palase) I should take photo and where not. Oh my dear friend! You are a messiah, I see, to deliver us from such vulgarity of life and art! And you are to dictate me how to move and where to move and what to shoot and present. I am to learn so many things from you dear friend and at this stage of life when I am mature enough to see the vision of life more clearly than you. ‘For God’s sake hold your tongue and let me love’. Don’t come out-doors, dear friends, remain in the incubator of four walls, least you are exposed to Ebola of such shameful vulgar images of life and nature. I don’t like to see you die in shame. Please do not visit such Places and Pages of Art and Artists and endanger your precious life and identity.
