Being in a constant state of hopefulness takes a lot of effort. Its easier to give in to doubt, to be critical, to blame others or our circumstances. Sometimes we can even think, this is just the way life is, or, its too late for me, and we give ourselves an excuse to give up altogether. Hope, however, implies that we must wait with a confident expectation. It requires faith that what we dont see now will one day come to pass. Hope requires a hard work of the soul.
