Being poor: Determines your choices In a recent study by an economist at Harvard University it seems that poverty keeps you from making good decisions. According to the study poor people are so focused on their immediate problem – of not having money - that they struggle to direct their mental resources to much else. So they can’t focus on the problem that needs fixing because the brain is occupied with having no money. In fact, the experiments showed that poverty can decrease your IQ by 13 points. How to handle being broke: • Use your talents – Take advantage of the talents you’ve been given and harness them to achieve your goals. Whether you use them to make money or help others is up to you - just use them. • Develop your mind – It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from - get your hands on as much knowledge as you can. You can fill the gaps that your lacking education offered you. Take out books from a local library and see what you can find on the internet when you can access it. • Use your time wisely – Social networks offer a great platform not just for socialising but for making potentially valuable contacts that could help you take that next step on your career. • Don’t let it get you down – Being poor can make you feel like there’s no way out but it’s up to you to keep it from demotivating you. With the right attitude it can drive you to great heights. Use your situation to give you the energy you need for a competitive edge. Do you think that people who have no money and poor resources make bad decisions?
