Being sick, Ive been working from home for the past two days. In order to do this, I put all my important files on a USB at work and brought them home. After 8 hours of straight number crunching yesterday, I fell asleep with my laptop and knocked out the USB. I woke up to find that I couldnt access any of my files and thought all my work was gone! In mid panic, I went to the Future Shop by my house and asked a technician if he could help me. After 5 minutes of playing around with the USB he said he could only help me ( maybe) using a special recovery software and that the cost would be around $100. Upon hearing the news, my face dropped and I stared at the ground not knowing what to say ( broke student status at the moment).In a broken conversation of not knowing who said what first, I said okay and he said Ill do it. Not knowing whether or not this guy was going to charge me, I went to Starbucks to get a drink to pass the time and decided to buy him a $10 gift card as a thank you. I did this in hopes that good karma would allow me to return to Future Shop to find my files recovered and ready for use. When I came back, he had a big smile on his face and said it worked. I told him thank you and asked how much exactly?. He responded with a smile : Im not gonna charge you. I then slipped him the Starbucks giftcard and said thank you one too many times. Im not one for big Facebook statuses but this more than made my day and in a way restored my faith in humanity a little :p. He saved my a** and he really didnt have to. Thanks Future Shop guy.
