Being that its Sunday and all, Im going to hop on a soap box. Climate change isnt an environmental issue; its a people issue. Its about the air quality in South LA, its about longer and more intense wildfire seasons, its about a warming and acidifying ocean that will become inhospitable to the marine ecosystems we depend on; its about longer, dryer droughts. The average American is responsible for about 25,000 lbs. of CO2 emissions each year. Wanna know what a sustainable CO2 footprint looks like? 4,000 lbs. per person, per year. And the thing is, lowering our emissions isnt that hard. Ride a bike to work one day a week, or take public trans. Try meatless-Mondays. Use energy efficient lighting in your home. Run energy intensive appliances off peak hours (before 12pm or after 8pm). Fly as infrequently as you can (take the train!). Buy local produce. Itll take more than this to bring down greenhouse gas emissions, but its a start.
