Belief it or not, my recent posting when I was in Singapore - TopicsExpress

Belief it or not, my recent posting when I was in Singapore somewhere between 4 to 7 Sept 2014 has gone missing from my FB wall! The title is 10 Reasons Why Malaysia Should Emulate Singapore Without The Feeling of Embarrassment Because We Are From The Same Roots, and I shall attempt to recall (not in exact words) and repost as below... 1. Town planning in Singapore is perfect, without the disastrous congestion and roads riddled with potholes. Utility lines are held beneath removable covers on the pavements unlike those directly under the busy roads here! Public transport is seamless, unlike those here that once upon a time we have to walk under the rain to connect with another line! 2. Recruitment drive for the arm forces is made with pride and well branded, unlike here where politicians are still engaging in racial segregation and accusing the non-Malays are as being unpatriotic. 3. We still see the old working in Singapore, especially the food joints. Here, we have people bragging about retirement at 40! Whether it is a sad case or not, one thing for sure is that those continue working will have less risk of exposure to aging diseases. 4. Cost of living in Singapore is so much affordable. And for those who still talk about currency conversion and expensive housing and car ownership, I suggest that they learn economy again! Ringgit is definitely devaluing over the years while the God-knows-which-university the so-called economists will still say our Ringgit has been strengthening every now and then. Products in Singapore are affordable branded and quality imports while here, we import from (without prejudice) China, repacked and priced in sophisticated God-knows what the brands are! There you can get a plate of chicken rice at SGD1.80, here RM5.00 and above. The idea and the path that we are taking on high income economy is definitely leading to Holland! 5. Cleanliness is commendable if not perfect. There in their MRT stations, you will always see a LOCAL holding a piece of cloth and wiping all the way along. Here, whenever you ask the staff to wipe, the answer will be, Tadi sudah lap! Dont believe? Lend me your finger and take a swipe! 6. Innovation there is market and technology driven, innovation here is fame, fun and fund driven! Creativity and innovation here is about grants, (relatively) easy fundings, professorship promotion, while having some fame and media attention for innovations that are nothing new! While we are still exporting durian (as it is), they are exporting processed high value-added products! 7. In Singapore, they have brain gain. Here we have brain drain. Yet, we still label them as unpatriotic and materialistic. And these unpatriotic and materialistic Malaysians happen to be great cancer and cardiac researchers, designers, flash-memory inventor, actresses... 8. Law and order in Singapore is no nonsense. The seats in public transport is relatively clean. Here, we have all sorts of stains and smells! There a fine is a fine. Here, a fine can be negotiated and offered year-end discount! 9. We see Singaporeans manning the food stalls at the food courts. Here, we employ foreign workers and cry foul that there are no jobs for the locals. When Penang realizes that and start to ban foreign workers from cooking at food stalls, they were condemned! 10. Singaporeans have greater appreciation for space and environment. Here, everything is taken for granted. We build the biggest, longest, largest, tallest... Then we have maintenance issues and the white elephants are left to rot. We have a sophisticated looking national library, but they have sophisticated contents! So, whats wrong with benchmarking and be better if not the best? And for those who will say, If not happy, leave the country, I will say this to you, Sorry sir, I will be the pain in your arse! I will continue to be around and shout your blunders because I love Malaysia so much that I take the risk of shouting the shit out of you! (Hopefully this post will not be lost...)
