Believing in the oneness of God : The predicament of our understanding of good theology lies in the limited capacity of how we got our theology lessons and from what source we got our lessons. Without denigrating our unskillful theology teachers, I can say that we are to blame only, for our own dryness in the sense of spirituality. We somehow blocked that particular facet of our brain, which demands constant thinking. Oneness of god actually means we all came from one source. Oneness of God and its eschatological meaning is equality of the all creation, since the whole creation came from one source. Belief in Oneness of God is not bound by a simple acceptance to a doctrinal statement. Believing in oneness of God cannot be limited by a head-trip, it is rather a journey of practical steps. We say, we believe in the oneness of God, but subconsciously, we the Muslims believe that we are privileged being Muslims, and we are superior to the people of other beliefs and religions. Oneness of God simplifies the fact that we are all equal. And the notion of that is quite clear by the last sermon of our beloved Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), “All mankind is from Adam and Eve,an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by the amount of compassion”- We can all imagine that the recipients of this statement were all Muslims and Arabs. Yet Prophet (PBUH) made that point clear by uttering in an eloquent but stern voice that arabs do not have superiority over non-Arabs and he even emphasized more precisely by saying that a white has no superiority over a black. He also emphasized the fact that he meant all mankind by the start of his statement, so that we never stay confused by our puny little and splintered mind and arrogance that this statement may only implied to Muslims.
