Belonging contd... Simrans Law...an argument for, a campaign for our future... The right to family life.... is applied under Human Rights law. Although the context of this is often applied for immigration cases( ie wife separated from her children or husband to return to another country without them or when siblings grandparents ,extended families are separated from each other under these circumstances ), solicitors argue that the right to family life is a basic human right. The Childrens Rights charter speaks of basic human rights ( such as my previous post below on warmth, shelter, food etc..) I believe that the right to family life should be extended to include The right to family life for those disowned . Those shunned by their families can experience the whole range of human emotions and circumstances related to abuse and separation... including isolation, depression, homelessness etc...Simran understands that it will be seen as difficult to apply this experience in law to effect change, however the plight of those disowned and shunned by families under the circumstances of honour based cultures where the impact of community shunning can have devastating effect on those disowned...needs careful thought in the minds of those managing forced marriage law, birth families who so easily disown, and law related to the right to inheritance. Does the law take this on board when compensation in paid out for loss? Many women who also leave abusive marriages, or their families because of abuse under various different categories..is it beyond our society to protect those shunned for a life time in this way? Do they loose out on a community? A way of life? Their culture? Whilst we address these issues on Simrans link of belonging...we would also campaign for the Right to Family Life.
