Below is a letter I wrote to our esteemed Minister of the Environment. Please follow the link provided by the CPAWS website and consider adding your voice to the growing list of concerned citizens in our beautiful province. org.salsalabs/o/2463/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=15093 Honourable Mary Polak, I have spent the past four years completing a degree in Nature Based Tourism Management. This was done to create job options to help me provide for my family without having to rely on jobs in resource extractive industries (something my husband has been forced to do to provide for us in the past). Our family, and many others across the province have been split apart by these industries, many permanently. It is for this reasons and all of the obvious detrimental effects to the biodiversity of our province, that I beseech you to reconsider the decision to allow mineral, oil and gas exploration in our parks. Please remember that the BC Parks mission is to protect representative and special natural places within the provinces Protected Areas System for world-class conservation, outdoor recreation and education and to maintain British Columbias ecological diversity through the preservation of representative and special natural ecosystems, plant and animal species, features and phenomena (BC Ministry of Environment- BC Parks). Allowing resource based industries into BC Parks goes against the stated mandate and destroys the values it aims to protect.
