Below is a sample of part of an early blog. Mike and Virginia Mike had had it with the Executive Dating Service. Week after week for three months they had sent him out on dates to meet the “girl of his dreams”. It was more like a never-ending series of nightmares! He had plunked down the enormous fee of $5,000.00 for the “privilege”! And what did he get in return? Well, it was all going to come to an abrupt end after this last date that night. He was going to demand his money back! Fortunately, he had arranged a system with a good friend, whereby he would receive an “emergency” phone call at precisely 8:30 p.m. on date nights. If the date was a “stiff” he would excuse himself; he had an emergency and had to leave immediately. If it was a “good” date, he would hang up and say that it was a wrong number. This system went into effect after his third miserable date. He always met his dates for coffee at a nearby café at 8;00 p.m. Early on, he learned it was much easier and cheaper than meeting at an expensive restaurant. His dates usually arrived first at a pre-arranged table where he would join them. This night, for his last date, he walked into the café with a ho-hum attitude. It was going to be more of the same. He saw her at the pre-arranged table and was more than a bit surprised. She was attractive, shapely, and well dressed; not too much makeup. He liked what he saw; so far, so good. As he sat down, she greeted him and said her name was Virginia, like the State! Hmm, he thought, she has a sense of humor. He said that his name is Mike, and there was no State named after him; not even a river or song, unless you count “Michael Row the Boat Ashore”! Oh, yeah, I almost forgot Michael the archangel, but I’m no angel. It was a feeble attempt at humor, but at least it was a start. She replied that she was no Mother Theresa, either. Mike liked that. They sat and talked for a while over coffee and English muffins. Conversation flowed easily; they both enjoyed good books, sports, and the theatre. At 8:25 p.m. Virginia excused herself; she had to go to the powder room. When she got there, she whipped out her cell phone and told her girlfriend, Jennifer, to cancel the emergency call. She had a winner! Meanwhile, Mike took this opportunity to call his friend, Jerry. He told him to cancel the emergency call; she looked like a keeper! Mike would also have to remember to call the dating service next day to tell them to put off any future dates
