Please talk with your pediatrician if another provider gives your child the diagnosis or posterior tongue tie and recommends surgery. We believe many normal patients without swallowing or speech concerns would qualify for posterior tongue-tie as it is currently being described. o If posterior tongue-tie is suggested as a causative factor for feeding difficulties, we recommend a comprehensive feeding evaluation. Patients with feeding or swallowing difficulty may have other issues unrelated to the tongue. o Surgery for posterior tongue-tie to improve swallowing or feeding has not been demonstrated to be effective.
