Mr. Mustafa Dzhemilev, Mr. Refat Chubarov as well as representatives of Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ministry for Social Policies, other state agencies, and a number of experts and intellectuals spoke at the conference followed by lively discussions following every section. The event drew a great interest of Ukrainian media featuring in key TV and online news reports. The conference ended with participants adopting a joint statement. Here it is: «UKRAINIAN WAY IN ENSURING THE RIGHTS OF CRIMEAN TATAR PEOPLE AS AN INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF UKRAINE» STATEMENT OF CONFERENCE PARTICIPANTS We, the participants of the conference Ukrainian way in ensuring the rights of the Crimean Tatar people as an indigenous people of Ukraine, underscore the importance of a detailed definition of legal aspects of further development of the Crimean Tatar people on its historical homeland, Crimea, as a part of the Ukrainian state. Numerous violations of collective and individual rights of the Crimean Tatars under the temporary occupation of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol do not allow any further delay of the restoration of historical justice for the indigenous people of Ukraine. We welcome the resolution of the Ukrainian Parliament on March 20, 2014 On Statement of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on guarantees of rights of the Crimean Tatar people in the Ukrainian state. Unfortunately, as of the end of 2014, majority of the rulings of this Regulation remain unfulfilled. Thus, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has not submitted a draft law that defines and confirms the status of the Crimean Tatar people. To develop a legislation that will reflect international practices in ensuring the rights of indigenous peoples, as well as the consolidated position of various governmental and nongovernmental institutions, we announce a launch of a Working Committee to prepare a Law On the Status of the Crimean Tatar people as an Indigenous People of Ukraine. We invite all relevant agencies and non-governmental organizations to join this initiative. We welcome and express our support for the initiative of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy to found Ismail Gasprinskiy Crimean Studies Center of science and research. We hope that this Center will carry on the intellectual traditions of Ukrainian oriental science and will promote comprehensive and thorough studies of the Crimean Tatar issue. We also welcome the decision of the Government of Ukraine to establish Crimean House in. Kiev. We believe that a just settlement of the status of the Crimean Tatar people will ensure harmonious development of this people within the Ukrainian State, a European state with a rule of law.
