Ben & Rita is a romantic comedy written by MFA playwright - TopicsExpress

Ben & Rita is a romantic comedy written by MFA playwright Wend-Marie Marting and it was directed by Cheryl Snodgrass as part of the Hollins Theatre Institute/Mill Mountain Theatre Winter Festival of New Works of 2014. Every year in January and February we partner with Mill Mountain Theatre to fully produce a new play by one of our MFA playwrights. We frequently bring in guest professional directors like Bob Moss or Cheryl Snodgrass for these shows and utilize a mix of Hollins actors (both graduate and undergraduate) and local actors. Sometimes those shows have even transferred with all or some of the original local cast to other cities. The Arctic Circle (written by Samantha Macher and directed by Bob Moss) took the entire local cast to Manhattan for a week of performances at the Playwrights Horizons Studio Theatre and The Matador (written by Robert Plowman and directed by Todd Ristau) went to LA for a multi-week run. These kinds of production opportunities allow our playwriting students to gain production credits in legitimate theatres while also providing experiential learning for our student performers and local actors, giving them the opportunity to work with established professionals.
