Bendigo Valley Sports and Charity Foundation The Vision for the Bendigo Valley Sports and Charity Foundation is “To provide beneficial funding to the community”. In their support for the Otago Community Hospice they have certainly lived up to this vision. Otago Community Hospice is extremely grateful to the Bendigo Valley Sports and Charity Foundation for their financial support towards the cost of providing palliative care services to the Otago community. Without significant grants such as the one we received from Bendigo it would be difficult to maintain a positive response to the growing need for Hospice services. Having confirmed funding of such a significant amount allowed confidence in budgeting and planning to expand services to meet the demand where it’s needed most – in the community. The Bendigo Valley Trustees recognise the impact the work of the Hospice has on the wider Otago community and acknowledged its support of this work with a grant of $100,000.00. It is not widely known that the bulk of what the Otago Community Hospice is based in the community – in a patient’s home or in an aged care facility. Other services include: Specialist palliative care coordination, symptom management in the community – which is delivered by our team of nurses, doctors, counsellors, social workers and spiritual care workers. Services also include bereavement support – for patients and families prior to death and for families following death, carer education – the Kowhai Programme and education - delivering support services and education in the community to other health and social service agency providers We are grateful for the amazing support we receive from the Bendigo Valley Sports and Charity Foundation and thank them for their insight and dedication to the Hospice and to the Otago community.
