Bentley is an eight-year-old, distinguished gentleman who was dumped at Manhattan ACC for home size. Maybe they meant heart size... Bentley did great on his evaluation and hes hoping for a savior, tonight. A volunteer writes: Bentley lays nearly immobile on his blankie. He lifts his head each time I pass in front of his kennel. His face looks so sad, like resigned. He is my last new encounter for the day. I open his door. Bentley looks at me, unsure of what he should do. I encourage him with gentle words, show him my leash and that seals the deal. Bentley and I are on the go. At first, he peed a river, not in the hallway but as soon as we reached the yard. Bentley is used to staying very long hours, crated, waiting for his family to return from work. He was relinquished into our care as there was no place and no time for him anymore although he was owned all his life and grew up around many children he loved. Bentley lived with other dogs and would favor females over males. I can understand that. He would not like cats (like so many dogs including mine) and knows a number of commands like shaking paw which he demonstrated for me after a while spent together. He pulls on the leash but sits and stays on command, not minding to pose for the photo session. Bentley is a beautiful dog, chocolate in color, who could benefit from some TLC. His coat has wear and tear, his mind is frozen and his heart is bruised. He looks like a strong dog, though, with good genes who could be with us quite a number of years given simple basic care and mostly love and respect. Bentley would start his life all over again, with you, if you are willing to give him a chance. Dogs are so resilient when they sense they belong and are loved.
