Berklee College of Musics American Roots Music Program presents special lesson opportunities, which are FREE to current Berklee guitarists on a first come, first serve basis. Now that your schedule is set, please consider signing up for some of these lessons with Woody Mann or Paul Rishell. Unlike your typical Berklee courses, its only necessary to reserve a slot with the artist. Many students have enjoyed taking a series of these lessons. Its my understanding that several of the students whove been filling their schedules have graduated, so, nows your chance! From American Roots: The American Roots Music Program has an ongoing Country Blues residency with the talented guitarists Woody Mann and Paul Rishell. Private lessons are available to all current Berklee guitarists who are interested! Country blues music encompasses a wide variety of sounds styles and techniques - from gospel and folk melodies to ragtime and jazz improvisations. Woody Mann and Paul Rishell will be presenting a listening history of country blues through a survey of its most important recordings, from major recording artists such as Charlie Patton, Robert Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Scrapper Blackwell and Blind Blake, and the sounds from the Mississippi Delta to the Carolina’s. This is also a playing session with Paul and Woody, open to all students. This workshop offers new repertoire and an appreciation of one of the richest traditions in American roots music. It will be offered on Tuesdays (specific dates and location TBA), 1-2pm. The specific dates are TBA but this is the rough schedule as it stands now: -Paul Rishell will be on campus on Wednesdays giving lessons. -Woody Mann will be on campus (roughly) every other Monday AND Tuesday giving private lessons.
