Bermuda Politicians have a lot to answer for..... After the budget speech yesterday, lets put a few things in perspective: When you look back on the past 3 1/2 decades...... it makes me cringe how Bermuda was, and still is, behind the 8 ball on doing what was needed to reinvigorate Tourism. I brought up the subject of a Lottery (Like Barbados) 20 years ago to the Government (UBP) - I pushed Resort Gaming - NO POLITICAL WILL - politicians mantra was the churches will not approve - Separation of Church & State ??? I brought ONLINE GAMING to the PLP under Jennifer Smith after looking at Cable & Wirelesss new facility for e Commerce servers in Devonshire. We even looked at TBIs facility on the baselands...... BUT NO.....they would not even entertain this....... Meanwhile ST KITTS (former birth home of many early PLP leaders) has done over THREE BILLION in online gaming since 2000....... BERMUDA missed out BIG TIME.....One of the former owners of BERMUDA.COM runs the tech side of an online gaming business in ST. KITTS..... so I know the numbers !! Had Bermuda instituted a LOTTERY, ONLINE GAMING, RESORT GAMING along with opening up the island for BUSINESS with the right work permit policies and investment friendly policies we would NOT be looking at the dire times we are facing...... The insane term limits chased International Business & some service jobs out of Bermuda (3 to 5,000)..... we not only blew Tourism but we pissed of International Business....who simply and quietly exited and cut jobs - only for all of us to wake up after 5 years to say WTF ??? So the 40 or so politicians who have sat in the HOUSE for 3 1/2 decades have a lot to answer for, whilst they played party politics and used the churches as an excuse to avoid making BOLD DECISIONS..... The grim economic reality cannot permit the same old same old on Parliament Hill...
